Dance at Illinois Presents Flatlands Dance Film Festival August 26–27
Dance at Illinois will screen short works and the winners of its 2016 competition for aspiring filmmakers at the Flatlands Dance Film Festival on August 26 and 27 at the Spurlock Museum. Headlining this year's event is A Ballerina's Tale, which documents Misty Copeland's rise to principal ballerina with the American Ballet Theater and explores body image, race, and expectations for women in the world of classical dance. A talkback following the screening will include dancer Ashley Murphy of the Washington Ballet, Endalyn Taylor of Dance at Illinois, and Samuel Smith of Krannert Center. This two-day festival will feature films in a broad range of styles from across the planet. Individual tickets and festival passes are available to purchase online.
