Monday, February 2, 2015

The Illinois Public Housing Authority Efficient Living Program (ILPHA) was named the 2015 winner of the Inspiring Efficiency Impact Award by the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, an association of leaders in the energy field from 13 states. A partnership between utility companies and the university, the ILPHA identifies ways for public housing authorities to increase energy efficiency and reduce costs, and it provides assessments, workshops, and technical assistance. Kate Brown, a housing research specialist who heads the ILPHA, noted that it "is one of the few public sector programs in the nation to leverage utility funds for energy efficiency upgrades in public housing properties." The award recognized the ILPHA's notable efforts to update buildings to increase comfort and energy savings.
