"Spellbinding" Jennifer Monson Lauded in the New York Times
Jennifer Monson of Dance at Illinois harkens back to four decades of work with 10 different artists for her new production in tow for Danspace Project in New York. Featuring improvisational solos and group dances by members of iLAND, harp music from Zeena Parkins, sounds from portable tape recorders, costume changes, and wooden blocks, the piece intermingles performers and audience members and generates suspense through its unexpected juxtapositions. Called an "extraordinary improvisor" by the New York Times, Monson was singled out for her transformative abilities in its premiere: "The sense of surprise is spellbinding." Performances of the work will be held through October 1. Read the full review of in tow.
