Student Places Third in International Design Competition

Friday, February 27, 2015

Austin Laniosz, a junior in the Industrial Design Program, earned third place in the International Housewares Association's Student Design Competition for his product Olie, a dispenser for cooking oil. The winning entries make everyday tasks easier or specifically address the needs of the elderly or those with disabilities, and students must demonstrate innovation and a deep understanding of market research. Olie focuses on safety, economy, and better health by measuring oil directly onto a hot pan through the simple push of a button. Users can immediately see how much oil they should be consuming and can easily grasp the handheld device. Laniosz will receive $1,000 and a free trip to the International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago on March 7–10.
