Share a little bit about why you chose UIUC/FAA for your graduate degree.
I knew early on when I started attending the school as an undergraduate that I wanted to complete my graduate degree at UIUC. After one year studying abroad and my senior year isolated by COVID-19, I felt I hadn’t yet made the most of my time in Champaign. Two years later, I am completing my degree from Chicago, and I’ve never missed campus more.
What has been a highlight of your grad school experience so far?
For me the most fulfilling part of my education has actually been serving as a teaching assistant for the freshman design courses. I didn’t have many resources or mentors when I was going through school, so it is gratifying to be able to serve as that resource for several students who are just beginning their academic journeys in architecture. Ever since I was a freshman, I knew it was something I could see myself doing in the future, so it was rewarding to complete a long-term goal I had.

Share a little about a special project you have worked on.
This drawing is from my first architectural design studio in grad school. The focus of the course was to generate a design for a residential “super-tall” high rise building in Chicago. That semester was full of good memories, new friendships, and lasting lessons.
How do you hope your graduate degree will impact your career?
Beyond the professional accreditation, my degrees prove to me what I am capable of achieving and that I have much still to accomplish in the future.
What is your favorite space on campus and why?
Even with all the amazing spaces on campus, for me the winner still has to be the Main Quad. What makes it such a beautiful and regenerative place are not only the trees, iconic architecture, and crowds of familiar and unfamiliar faces, but also the history of generations of students, faculty, and visitors creating some of their best memories there. I think it’s that strong collective memory that makes this university truly stand out.
What advice would you give students interested in attending your grad program?
Come in with a willingness to try new things, always advocate for yourself, your goals, and desires, and be confident that you can achieve what you set your mind to.
