Share a little about why you chose the U of I College of Fine & Applied Arts for your graduate degree.
I mainly chose U of I because of John Boesche (chair of the Media Design program). When we were first introduced, I felt very welcome and safe, and that has continued throughout these last three years. The Level 21 community at Krannert Center has also been a major reason why I chose this university.
What has been a highlight of your grad school experience so far?
While there are specific experiences that come to mind, my favorite one is more cumulative; it is the incredible friends and collaborators I’ve met along the way. They’ve truly been my support system through it all—whether it was long nights putting shows together or early morning coffee runs. Their friendship and teamwork have made all the hard moments worthwhile.

Share a little about a special project you have worked on.
This piece is from October Dance 2022, it is called “Untied” and was choreographed by Roxane D’Orleans Juste. This project is near and dear to my heart since it was my first design of my graduate experience. After switching degree paths late in undergrad, I finally felt like I found what I was supposed to do.
What is your favorite space on campus and why?
My favorite space on campus is actually the main quad. I spend most of my time in the basement of the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts so touching grass and spending time outside (weather permitting) is refreshing.
What advice would you give students interested in attending your grad program?
Graduate school can be a very difficult time, embrace the discomfort and use it as a tool for growth, both as a creative and as an individual. Also, surround yourself with a supportive community—it will help you navigate the tough times and bring out your best work.
