Alan Ruck

Alan Ruck is an accomplished stage, film, and television actor whose career spans more than four decades. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Ruck earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he studied theatre and performed with Illinois Theatre. In 1979, he appeared as Romeo in the university’s production of Romeo and Juliet.

Following graduation, Ruck began his professional career in Chicago, performing with companies including the Goodman Theatre, Wisdom Bridge Theatre, and Apollo Theatre. He later moved to New York and originated the role of Don Carney in the 1985 Broadway production of Neil Simon’s Biloxi Blues. His Broadway credits also include The Producers and Absurd Person Singular.

Ruck became widely known to film audiences for his portrayal of Cameron Frye in John Hughes’s 1986 comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. His extensive screen career has also included roles in Speed, Star Trek Generations, Twister, Young Guns II, and the television series Spin City.

More recently, Ruck starred as Connor Roy in HBO’s critically acclaimed series Succession, earning a 2023 Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. In 2026, he returned to HBO in the comedy series Rooster, appearing in a recurring role as Dean Vincent Riggs.
