"Illinois Theatre has great versatility. We are exposed to traditional pieces and new work as well."
Connection is important to Matthew Brooks. It's what draws him to writing, music, woodworking, and history. Collaboration is just as valuable, and both align perfectly with his interest in theatre.
"The best thing about my experience in the department is the time spent in Krannert Center for the Performing Arts with fellow artists of all disciplines and experiences working together to produce great art," he notes.
He calls Illinois Theatre an "amazing classical training center" that provides opportunities to present masterpieces by Shakespeare alongside contemporary works. This variety deepens the educational experience, and the research of faculty members, the contributions of professional artisans, and the talent and commitment of other students create a stimulating environment.
"The professors are amazing resources, and other artists bring so many ideas to the table. It takes a village to put on a production, and we have a strong one at Illinois."
