Ronald and Paula Filler Marching Illini Instructional TowerThe latest enhancement to the Marching Illini's practice field will launch with a groundbreaking ceremony prior to Illinois' football game on Saturday. A 50-foot tall observation tower will be constructed at the Marching Illini’s permanent practice field near the corner of First Street and Gregory Drive. The purchase and construction of the orange and blue tower was made possible by a generous gift from alumnus Ronald Filler ('70 LAS) and his wife Paula and will bear their names.

The Ronald and Paula Filler Marching Illini Instructional Tower is a critical element in the development of a safe, proper, permanent rehearsal facility. The tower will be placed at the artificial turf practice field, near the heart of tailgating, gameday activities, and Memorial Stadium. The upper portion of the tower, in the shape of the iconic Block I, will stand as a proud beacon of the University of Illinois and of the Marching Illini. The ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9.
