Student Work Recognized at Industrial Design Competition
Jun Young Park and Rachel Fox, students in the BFA Industrial Design Program, received honorable mentions for their entries to the International Housewares Association Student Design Competition. Projects were judged for the quality of their consumer and market research, approach to design, engineering schematics, and prototypes that had been tested for usability. Park conceived INCAIR, an air purifier and sound machine for the elderly that includes an alert system for caregivers. Fox created a mold detection unit called Allbright, which offers monthly reminders to monitor the air for mold with built-in test strips and plugs into an electrical outlet. In addition to a $250 prize, Park and Fox will have an opportunity to display their product concepts at the International Home and Housewares Show held March 5–8 in Chicago.
